What to watch out for at Comic Con Delhi

Comic Con India, back this year with its fifth edition, brings to enthusiasts a cornucopia of comics and beyond.

Heading out for a date with your favourite stars from the comic world this weekend? Then here are some of the events you definitely should not miss.

Dress Up: The Cosplay Costume Contest, one of the major attractions at Comic Con India, will continue to give assured prizes to people in great costumes. Comic Con India under its five categories — comic book or graphic novel; animated series or movie; Manga or Anime; sci-fi or fantasy; and gaming will choose one winner in each category each day. On all three days, one lucky winner out of the chosen five will get the chance to win a Golden Ticket to the Beijing Comic Con as well as get a chance to participate in the Indian Cosplay Championship.

The Force Within: With the seventh episode of the iconic sci-fi film series, Star Wars, set to release later this month, fan boys and girls will be in for a treat as the celebrated Star Wars: Battle Pod will be making an appearance at the event, to provide them with a high-speed arcade game experience set in the Star Wars galaxy. The game features arcade-exclusive game play on a unique dome screen enveloping your entire area of sight.

Merch and More: Apart from an army of comic and graphic novel titles up for grabs, there will be an eye-watering array of merchandise from various publishing houses and series on sales, with everything from action figures to prop replicas to costumes and themed apparel. Bring your wallets.

International Guests:

* Kristian Nairn is a Northern Irish actor and DJ. He is best known for his portrayal of Hodor, Brandon Stark’s simple-minded gigantic guardian in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. He initially appeared as a guest star in the first season and returned in this role for the second, third and fourth seasons.

Festive offer

* Rob Denbleyker is the author of viral web comic Cyanide & Happiness, which first began as a small series of comics drawn by Kris Wilson at the age of sixteen. Cyanide & Happiness Show is a comedy animated web series based on their comic.

* Ty Templeton is a Canadian comic book artist and writer who has drawn a number of mainstream titles, TV-associated titles, and his own series. He first received attention for Stig’s Inferno (Vortex Comics), now a cult favourite, which detailed the journey of its lead character into Hell in a parody of Dante’s The Divine Comedy.

The event will take place December 4-6 at the NSIC Grounds, Okhla, Gate 4 (next to Govindpuri Metro Station) during 11am-8pm.
